Help Alan Help The Horses
In operation since 2005, Calan Horse Sanctuary (CHS) was founded, starting with one horse named Rebel who came into Alan Gent’s care with deformed teeth. Since that time Calan Horse Sanctuary (CHS) has become home to over 30+ horses in need-with 19 still living and 16 whom have since passed away. We also have a few sheep, 2 alpacas, 2 cats, and a dog named Kaylee who is forever at Alan’s side. Based in Highbury, near Narrogin in Western Australia, the sanctuary is on a 100-acre property that offers many challenges to include limited vegetation and water during the dry, summer
months and wind and rain in the winter.
CHS is not a charity or a not for profit. It is privately owned by Alan and is auspiced under Bridging Communities Inc, a DGR Status Charity which assists him with funding to care for the horses. Occasionally visitors and volunteers muck stalls and help with farrier care. Alan has many supporters who have heard about his efforts.
Rescue work is never-ending and there are unfortunately many more requests to take in unwanted, neglected or last-chance horses than any rescue could properly care for them. As of 2021 Alan turned 82. It is no longer feasible to continue to take in more horses without regular volunteer assistance. The 19 still living are mainly elderly horses and many over the age of 20+ years-old with special needs, and they are lovingly cared for as they approach their end of life.
Can you assist ? You can donate vital funds direct to CHS via Bridging Communities which attracts no fees.
